Known as terror twins of Funk and Swing, Madboy/Mink is the collaboration between musician-actors Imaad Shah and Saba Azad. Madboy/ Mink’s new sound takes inspiration from Electro, Indian Disco, Post Punk, Cosmic Disco, Electro Funk, Soul Cabaret-Punk, Rock-n-Roll, Delta Blues, Soul, Funk, Indian Disco, Indian Film Scores from the 60s and 70s mixed with elements of electronic music. Therefore, crafting a sound that is unique and genre-defying.
Famous for their energetic live acts, the duo has Mink on vocal duties and Imaad on guitars, vocals, and synth. Both members share a keen interest in Retro-Futurism; Their famous track, ‘Laika’ explores the concept, which is a direct reference to the first dog to be launched into space, orbiting the earth in 1957. Madboy Mink have 3 EP’s under their belt with All Ball (2014), Union Farm (2015) and Persons. Elastic. Superior.Fantastic , (2018). The Funk-Nu Disco duo garnered much praise for the mainstream success of their electro-swing track, Calcutta Kiss,(Yash Raj Films) in Dibarkar Banerjee’s movie Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.
Shah/Azad’s success in Bollywood continued with the release of their song ‘Bhar De Hamaara Glass’ (T Series Music), which was one of the soundtracks for the Bollywood film Karwaan. The music video for the T Series Music song amassed nearly a quarter million views. Some of Madboy/Mink’s other popular songs include Plastic Elastic(feat Karan Joseph) and Taste Your Kiss with thousands of hits on music platforms. Their first Hindi song, Sharaabi is a tribute to the Indian disco sound popularised by Bollywood in the 80s.
Globally, they have played at clubs and festivals like Sorte Firkant (Copenhagen), Kimia Festival (Copenhagen), with Asha Puthli at Le Guess Who? (Utrecht), Mela Festival (Oslo), Khartoum (Oslo), Cross Club (Prague) Red- Light Radio (Amsterdam). In India, they have played every major festival including Bacardi Nh7 Weekender, Sunburn and Echoes of Earth, to name a few.
