If you needed one more reason to be a part of helping build India’s first mobile sound system, Trojan Sound System selector Earl Gateshead‘s exclusive mix for #LetsBuildaSoundSystem — with some on-point artwork courtesy Samara C — might just be it. Backers chipping in anything starting from USD $1 will receive the exclusive mix by the veteran reggae DJ as a big up for their generosity.

Just less than three weeks into Delhi Sultanate’s crowdfunding campaign, it has received much love and support and has succeeded in raising 25% of the goal amount, bringing us that much closer to realising the dream of India’s first mobile reggae sound system. Besides the 50-odd backers who have come out strong in support of the vision, the legendary Earl Gateshead own contribution should have reggae fans’ ears perking up everywhere.

Earl’s career in the late 1970’s saw him build his own sound system and install it at Dive Bar in Soho London, where he went on to do a full-fledged 23-year residency. He’s also been the Saturday night resident at clubs such as the legendary Blue Note, and later on, Fabric, where he became the resident Roots Reggae specialist. His label Sound of Trojan Records’ releases have featured nothing but the finest Jamaican talent, ranging from Bob Marley and The Wailers to John Holt and Toots, and Earl has a range of solid and versatile credits to his name — from DJing at the exhibitions of graffiti artist Banksy’s first few exhibitions, to organising and performing at ‘Reggae Nights’, a series of events he kicked off in 2000.

Check out some of his other mixes to get a feel of the exclusive mix that’s up for grabs for all backers of the campaign. Don’t miss out.
